It's common to take off bullets and bullet fragments in the body. An experienced trauma surgeon can determine whether the bullet might become a problem, and whether it's worth trying to remove it.
If the bullet isn't going to create any problems and removal would require extensive surgery, then it make little sense to remove it.

My great aunt be shot with a rifle by twist of fate in 1923. It's still in attendance. She is 90 years old.
